The Threat of Tooth Decay: Causes, Effects, and Solutions

Home - Blog Detail

Tooth decay, also called dental caries or cavities, is one of the most prevalent oral diseases worldwide. It’s caused by the interaction between bacteria in the mouth and sugars from the foods we eat, leading to the formation of acids that erode tooth enamel. Over time, these acids create holes in the teeth – cavities.
Symptoms of tooth decay include tooth sensitivity, pain, visible pits or holes in teeth, and discoloration. If left untreated, cavities can progress to infect the inner pulp of the tooth, leading to more severe issues.

Preventing tooth decay involves practicing good oral hygiene, limiting sugary foods and drinks, and maintaining regular dental checkups. Dental professionals can detect and treat cavities early, often with dental fillings, preventing further damage and preserving the health of your teeth.
